Τέσσερις σκαναρισμένες φωτογραφίες από την πυρηνική δοκιμή της Γαλλίας στις 24 Αυγούστου 1970 (νομίζω κάπου γύρω στη Γαλλική Πολυνησία), με κωδική ονομασία Licorne.

Tις βρήκα στο YDA — ένα σχόλιο που άφησε αναγνώστης εκεί μου έκανε εντύπωση:

Eleftheros Typos wins the Best-Design European National Newspaper of the Year Award

Προ ολίγων εβδομάδων ο Ελεύθερος Τύπος κέρδισε το βραβείο της καλύτερα σχεδιασμένης εφημερίδας στην Ευρώπη (Best-Designed European National Newspaper of the Year Award (“The European Oscars for Newspaper Design!”) [via]. Η τιμητική αυτή διάκριση είναι απόλυτα δίκαιη — καθημερινά το φύλο του Ελεύθερου Τύπου ξεχωρίζει από όλες τις υπόλοιπες εφημερίδες, πάντα σε ότι αφορά το στήσιμο (για το περιεχόμενο επιφυλασσόμεθα).

Υπεύθυνο για το τωρινό design της εφημερίδας είναι το Innovation Media Consulting Group, Σχόλια και παρασκήνια γύρω από αυτό το ριζικό επανασχεδιασμό θα διαβάσετε στο blog της εταιρείας σε τρία κείμενα: 1 — 2 — 3.

Οι άκρατοι διθύραμβοι προς του νέους ιδιοκτήτες της εφημερίδας θα πρέπει μάλλον πρώτα μάλλον να περαστούν από ένα low-pass filter, όπως και να’χει όμως θα πρέπει να τους δωθεί τεράστιο credit που τόλμησαν να προχωρήσουν σε μια τόσο τολμηρή αλλαγή.

That their designers didn’t have the skill to maintain high graphic standards.
That their printing presses had very bad reproduction and poor full color.
That INNOVATION didn’t have any idea about the traditions of the country.
And on, and on …
What we did was the opposite.

Μια λίστα με τα “καλύτερα” τραγούδια του 2007: τη βρήκα τυχαία και, όπως συμβαίνει με κάθε “best of” λίστα, είναι άκρως υποκειμενική. (Μάλιστα κρίνοντας από το ότι βρίσκονται δύο φορές στη λίστα οι National, υποθέτω ότι θα έχω έντονες ενστάσεις.). Ωστόσο, καθώς περιέχει ένα κάρο τραγούδια που δεν έχω ακούσει και τα προσφέρει όλα για κατέβασμα, θα τιμηθεί. √ Dec 27th, 2007

"The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggytardust!"

Saul Williams is distributing his latest record, the dramatically titled “The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggytardust!” solely via the Intarweb (i.e. no Radiohead “In Rainbows” nonsense). Those interested can either grab the 192 kbps MP3 version for free, or pay $5 and opt for the FLAC version. Both versions come with a PDF booklet, containing artwork and lyrics to the songs.

The record has been produced Trent, “I know that artists should embrace the flow”, Reznor (NIN fame). The two gave an interview on New York Magazine regarding the release. Reznor says (emphasis mine):

I’m truly saddened because I think music has been devalued, so that it’s just a file on your computer, and it’s usually free. But we can’t change that. What we can do is try to offer people the best experience that we can provide them. Will it work? I don’t know. But I think it’s a great way to get music out to people who are interested.

If you truly believe that record companies are evil and you’ve had enough with the way music lovers are treated nowadays, put your money where your mouth is and buy the album. You don’t have to be a fan of his music — I think the album sucked but I didn’t regret spending those $5 one bit. If we truly had enough with the music industry’s tactics, these initiatives should be getting the most of our support. √ Dec 6th, 2007
